| Scaredy The Squirrel |
Glad you are checking out my first blog entry, I hope you consider following me! Working with kids is my THING....I TEACH.....and more often than NOT......I LEARN from them some pretty simple BIG TRUTHS about living life. So, because I have been BLESSED with the AWESOME opportunity to teach....God has provided me with some very special insights from my students. Not wanting to let another second of my life pass without sharing them, I hope to deliver more in the future. For more reasons than one, the guy on the LEFT is quite a symbolic character. Discovered him a couple of years ago and he has helped communicate to at least 100 kids that I know of...a lesson in NOT BEING SCARED OF THE UNKNOWN!!! Being a squirrel can be rough, hah, right!! ESPECIALLY when you are terrified of GREEN martians, poison ivy, and KILLER BEES....you get the picture. Fear paralyzes this guy, until one day he accidentally falls out of a tree. LOW AND BEHOLD, he discovers he's a FLYING SQUIRREL! Of course he is.....ha ha!!! Scaredy the Squirrel learns he has an amazing gift to FLY, only after he falls into the UNKNOWN. YEP, AFTER he falls. I've used this story as an illustration and pivotal reset button for my students for years, but now for me it has had the same effect. You never discover amazing things about yourself and how God has designed you to be until you Accidentally, NOT-BY-CHOICE Fall into the UNKNOWN. That's me alright. Just went through a SUMMER of chemotherapy, FALL of Radiation and heading into a Winter of Tamoxifen.....a season of changes for sure!!! Didn't know that the hardest part was coming out the other end of breast cancer, after all the treatments. Praise the Lord, I'm cancer free and doing remarkably well!!!! Lambasted by an aftermath of emotions, BIG life Changes, physical transformations and a fiance to boot (A VERY SWELL DEVELOPMENT IN MY LIFE, I MIGHT ADD)......as I dole out advice to my audience of 25 inquisitive third graders.......I chuckle inwardly as I think.......LISTEN TO YOUR ADVICE, Chick!! Yep.....not only are these little minds struggling with perfection..... CURSIVE writing HURTS YOUR HAND, LONG DIVISION takes too LONG and wastes a WHOLE SHEET of paper front and back............Sally won't play with Julie and Joe broke Jack's favorite pencil while Sarah dumped cereal on her favorite jeans. Life is rough and EVEN MORE challenging when NOBODY listens to you and YOU HAVE VERY high expectations for yourself and you seem to DROP the ball no matter how hard you try. Not sure if this is NORMAL, but who cares, I'm relating to my third graders' woe's in life.
Thing is....(that's how they'd say it....lol).......Jump, Trust, and KNOW that .......God works for the good of those who LOVE HIM. CHECK! I love HIM.....So, with childlike Faith.....that's easy.....Love Him and KNOW......He's GOT this.....RIGHT!!!!!
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him who have been called accordingly to his purpose. Romans 8:28
